truffletree2.jpgIf you're looking for a gift for that beloved gourmet Francophile in your life or just feel like owning a bit of French soil, check out this truffle tree adoption scheme in Gascony, France.

truffle-adoptoin.jpgIn exchange for adopting a truffle-producing oak tree, you can either have truffles mailed to you -- or sold on your behalf (you'll receive a check at the end of the truffle season). You can either bet on your own tree to produce those elusive black gems, or pool your bet with other truffle tree adopters. And of course you are free to visit and help care for your tree -- there's a B&B on the premises -- in this beautiful region of France.

Standard adoption prices for a holm oak or a downy oak tree are $299. per tree, with a $69. yearly care and maintenance fee. Truffle trees can lead fruitful lives for up to 50 years.

Oh for a truffle tree! Fun & yum, but not really practical. Too bad.

TannerAdair,
Why not practical? Affordable is another matter. You could always split the costs with a group adoption -- and share the truffles!
