Some of you are cranky: you're tired of our pie coverage these last few weeks.
I'm sorry you feel that way. In tomorrow's weekly email I'll be doing a round-up of non-pie desserts with some tips on creating your own recipe for this year's feast. There will be nary a crust or pie dish in sight.

For those of you who are still interested in pie matter: have you been following our bake-off? New entries are being posted daily until next Wednesday, November 19th.

What do people have against pie? I was hoping to see more savory pies, but gosh, people are upset? I guess I will look elsewhere for pie recipies, thats a shame

I think the readers of AT:* were far more upset with Pet Month than Pie Month!

Bah--there are no pleasing cranks, and I'm enjoying and appreciating the pie coverage, but I always welcome posts showcasing new desserts.

... I too would like to see savory pies. They're perfect for fall and winter.
Kchoun8, I make the layered vegetable pot pie from The Silver Palate Good Times Cookbook (the red one - page 370, Chapter: Fireside Foods) for my husband for Thanksgiving, Christmas... sometimes even both! He's a vegetarian and this pie is really something special. With mushrooms, spinach and tomato you start thinking *hmmm...Italian*... but NO! ... the lemon ricotta and dill gives it a vaguely scandinavian bent. Try it... If you follow the recipe verbatim it's quite involved but if you're like me and like to spend the time producing something wonderful for the holiday you won't be disappointed.
I also make a Caramelized Onion Tart a lot. It's from the Moosewood Restaurant New Classics cookbook (page 291). Way faster but just as decadent.
Hope this gives you a few ideas, khoun8. We can keep checking the kitchn and maybe others will have even more savory pies for us to make.

Wow, that does sound good, I am a vegetarian too and I think fall Veggies make the best savory pies and dumplings and empanadas...(drool) and mixed with cheeses and spices even picky eaters will scarf them down meaning that i don't have to make a whole pie just for myself, and they are a great way to integrate nutritionl yeast that i saw was just highlighted in a later post today. but then we are supposed to be talking desserts so i have to say pies are fantastic and very traditional desserts, Thanksgiving is nothing without a good pie for dessert. to each his own i guess

I love pie, but my mom hates making it. So, as an alternative, we usually have pineapple pudding. It's a pretty big holiday tradition in my family. It's also, really yummy.
