If you've been watching Top Design on Bravo, you know Eddie. He's quite talented (he's a senior designer for Martha Stewart Living and a CIA graduate) and likes to tell people how quite talented he is. AT:NY has blogged his design tips, but we think he's a particular genius at scouting housewares at thrift stores. He shops at the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and even the Dollar Tree, and comes out with stuff he'd use to set a Martha-worthy table. See more of his finds, below...
If you are the type of person who can never unearth that dusty gem among all of the cheap junk, you need to read this blog. Not only does Eddie pull out simple plates and vintage cookware and show lots of pictures, he then tells you exactly how he'd use it (For the enamelware pot, top: "I'd do something simpleāa table covered in newspaper, vintage red Bakelite like my Grandmother's and old canning jars for glasses. How fun is that?")
He shops thrift stores in New York and takes road trips to small towns, and there are plenty of furniture photos, too. The place setting above and the plates below are both from a trip to the Dollar Tree on his way to the Chesapeake Bay. He also found dishtowels that cost less than our favorites from IKEA.

I don't think I can take any design or style advice from someone with a popped collar...

...and a faux-hawk

I have to admit that I have that exact tea towel. I am averse to white dishes--they're boring.
And I'm one, too, for scouting the thrift stores. People have a habit of throwing out perfectly fine stuff. I insist there is a "sleeper" item in every store.

And yes, that popped collar, faux hawk, and attitude are...well...typical.
